The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has announced that gusty to stormy winds may sweep across 17 regions of the country. River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist warning signal No. 1.

This information was conveyed in the forecast issued for the country’s inland river ports from 5 AM to 1 PM on Wednesday (April 29).

The forecast specifies that gusty or stormy winds, with speeds ranging from 45 to 60 kilometers per hour, may sweep over the regions of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet. Along with these winds, there is a likelihood of rain or thundershowers.

Furthermore, a 48-hour warning issued on Tuesday (April 28) indicated that Kalbaishakhi storms, with wind speeds of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour, are likely to hit the divisions of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet within the next 48 hours, starting from 11 AM today. The storm is expected to bring severe gusty winds and lightning.

Separately, a 96-hour heavy rainfall forecast predicts that various regions of the country could experience heavy rainfall ranging from 44 to 88 millimeters within a 24-hour period, with some areas potentially receiving very heavy rainfall exceeding 88 millimeters. This intense precipitation could lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas.

The Meteorological Department has specifically cautioned about the risk of landslides in the hilly areas of the Chattogram division due to heavy rainfall. Residents in the affected areas have been advised to take necessary precautions.

Meteorologists have indicated that this weather situation may persist for some time longer due to the continued formation of thundercumulus clouds across the country.
